Product Description
Computers and new printing technologies have brought significant changes to the world of self-publishing. Unlike what was the case only a decade ago, it is now possible to release a book without printing a full press run and the Internet provides some marketing opportunities that were not available a few years ago. This means that a book can now be published for a very modest fee, and that warehousing costs are a thing of the past. If you are thinking about self-publishing, then this book will provide you with a quick overview of everything you need to know in order to have your book released. And, it will help you decide whether or not self-publishing is really the best thing for your book.

One of the things this book does not attempt to do is tell you that self-publishing is for everyone. Unlike most books on the subject, this one does try to present an accurate portrayal of the advantages and disadvantages of self-publishing, something that is critical if you want to avoid a painful disappointment.

About the Author
Under duress, Clea Saal has confessed to being born on this planet ... however she insists that she is not certain whether or not that would have been her first choice. She was born at an early age somewhere in the Southern Hemisphere, although she was dragged to the other side of the equator by her parents when she was only a few years old. She endured twelve years of basic education (or rather thirteen, as she did flunk once) and then by reason of tradition, masochism or insanity, she went on to devote several more years of her life toward obtaining a degree in English Literature. The day she finally graduated was loudly celebrated ... by her teachers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Self-publishing: yes or no?, May 24, 2003
By "amarat" (Mexico, D.F. Mexico) - See all my reviews
If you want to know how you can have your book published, this is the book for you. It presents its ideas in plain English and is up to date in its information.
The author's honest and realistic approach to the process is a refreshing change from the many other books on the subject. She doesn't try to make you believe that self-publishing is the only way to go, but rather presents the pros and cons in a balanced fashion making the decision of releasing your book or not, an informed one. What is certain is that the chapter on how to self-edit your manuscript will save you many headaches, a lot of research, and quite a bit of money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful, June 3, 2004
By A Customer
I'll be honest, I've not yet read this book, but I have read the author's guide to POD on her website, which is part of the content of this book. It is the clearest guide to POD I have ever ventured across in all of my internet research, so I can only imagine this book would be even more helpful. Finally, someone to line up all of the pros and cons in one place, and to be honset about POD.

Thanks for the best description of the advantages and disadvantages of print on demand that I have seen. I enjoyed the personal and unbiased account of your experiences. This book and the website have helped me considerably in making decisons about print on demand.
