Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Written for hydrologists, GIS specialists, and scientists from many disciplines who create computer models of water resources, this book presents an improved standard for creating and using data in hydrologic projects. The ArcGIS hydro data model is the latest innovation in GIS modeling and increases the potential to integrate data from many sources to solve a wider range of water resource problems. This guide shows how hydrology projects work and how they can work better: by integrating local, regional, national, and international data to create a deeper understanding of the earth's water problems.

About the Author

Dr.David Maidment is a civil engineer and a specialist in surface water hydrology. Currently, he is director of the Center for Research in Water Resources at the University of Texas at Austin. He lives in Austin, Texas.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother...., January 23, 2009
By Special Analyst (Washingon, DC USA) - See all my reviews
This book is like many other GIS books: a compilation of case studies. There are no details, techniques, or tutorials provided. The text is accompanied by a CD, but everything on the CD can be downloaded for free from the internet.

This book was required for a class I took and I never even opened it. Unless you've been studying GIS for 15 years and have somehow NEVER delved into water resource applications, don't waste your money. It's a bunch of theory and conceptual jibber jabber.

4.0 out of 5 stars ArcHydro, November 16, 2008
The book was about 5 years old which for software is a bit old but I was able to use it. Thanks

2.0 out of 5 stars Good start, but lacking details, August 18, 2008
This book would be a good resource for anyone that's a well-experienced ArcGIS user. There is a lot of theory and general concepts, but much of the detail has been left out. Actual real world examples are very limited. I'd recommend using the tools in ArcGIS Spatial Analyst and it's related help information over this book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Decent - but not what I wanted
I didn't find it too useful. Too bad, I was looking for more of a users handbook for the extension - it's more of an explanation of what it can do, not HOW to do it.

2.0 out of 5 stars I didn't enjoy
I thought this book would to approach subjects about hydrology related with GIS.
I didn't enjoy this book.
