About the Author

David Herzog is an assistant professor at the University of Missouri School of Journalism and a former investigative reporter for The Providence Journal. He has used GIS as a journalist for more than a decade to examine child lead poisoning, map demographic patterns, and help uncover millions of dollars in public payments to a racketeer. He is the academic adviser to the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting and has trained journalists in using GIS. He lives in Columbia, Missouri.
