Editorial Reviews

Product Description
This collection of aphorisms and thoughts gathers 30 years of observations about the external world and on the nature of our internal selves. Compiled from scraps of paper dating from the early 1970s, these bits of wisdom include notes about the world around us that are often thought, but not often said; sightings of internal vistas and omens; and observations on music, the passage of time, America, the body, domesticity, and intimacy.

About the Author
Eva Brann has been a professor at St. John’s College in Annapolis since 1957 and is the author of Homeric Moments and Music of the Republic. She lives in Annapolis, Maryland.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hors d'oeuvres of wisdom., September 25, 2005
By Stewart Greenfield (Westport CT USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A book of remarkably witty, pithy, and insightful reflections on life, happiness, intimacy, and soul. Eva Brann's comments are unconventional and penetrating, and there are many great gems. She speaks with great wisdom and erudition. Many readers will find they are led to change the way they live and the way they deal with others. Most readers will find that the book will change the way they see themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let me count the ways, January 16, 2006
The light of the observations in this book shines clearly as the stars on a moonless night full of wonder. The little paragraphs are the twinkle in the joyful eye of a wise but not solumn friend. This book belongs on the hearth where there is good company. It should be in every suitcase for moments of "free" time. The reader will enjoy this book as he enjoys and savors a glass of wine. It belongs on the near-at-hand shelf of most reached for books.
