Product Description

Nothing conveys a feeling of warmth and comfort like the traditional art of patchwork. This book brings patchwork into the twenty-first century with a treasury of projects you can make that are bold, bright, and innovative—yet just as homey and warm as traditional patchwork. The thirty-four projects presented in this book explore the techniques of patchwork sewing, appliqué, and machine quilting and include pouches and handbags, quilts and pillow cases, tissue cases and pot holders, all with a distinctive Scandinavian flair. The projects’ minimalist style, attention to detail, and simple aesthetic speak to our desire to create a warm and authentic life at home. Each project is presented through stunning photographs that exemplify the creative, calming, and enriching qualities of the craft. Detailed diagrams and instructions make each project easy enough to follow for even the beginning sewer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fresh inspiration, September 23, 2009

I've long been an admirer of Japanese sewing and craft books, so I was very excited to see one published in English. I borrowed it, made two projects, and decided that I needed a copy for my own. The projects are very simple, instructions easy to follow, and the beautiful photography is a source of inspiration. Each time I pick it up I find a new project to make, or a fabric combination, or a fresh look I was to re-create in fabric.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not up to expectations, June 4, 2009
Given the popularity of this book in the original Japanese, I had pretty high expectations. But overall I found the patterns pretty simple and there isn't anything that I'm excited to do. Its pretty, but I'm not sure it was worth the hype.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple but pretty, August 18, 2009
By Cerulean Blue (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This book is pretty. Very pretty. The photography, the patterns, the book design. All pretty. So as an inspiration book, this gets 5 stars. As a pattern book, eh, knock it back to 3. The designs are all very simple, many very similar to others on the market, simply modified to be more "patchwork-y". Anyone with basic sewing skills could figure out quite a few of these patterns on their own. However, not everyone has an interest in doing the math to make their own patterns and these are all clearly written out for you. The fact that they are also now translated into English is a big bonus. For that reason, for a newer sewer or someone less accustom to deciphering japanese patterns, this book will be a real treat. I suggest flipping through the pages at a local B&N before deciding if its worth your time. I don't know that I would have payed full price at said B&N but personally, I found that even as just an inspiration book, it was well worth the Amazon price.
