Product Description

There is a war going on for the future of our country. Most people know that. What they may not know is that if Christians lose, the result won’t merely be enduring public policy we disagree with—it will be a prison sentence for those who oppose it. We’ve all seen the attack coming. First the Supreme Court said kids can’t pray in school. Then the Ten Commandments were ripped from the classrooms. Now pastors are being removed from their pulpits and put in jail for speaking out against homosexuality (Sweden). And things are only getting worse. How in the world did we get to this place? And why is it that Christians are singled out in this assault on morality? Serving as a wake-up call for America, this book will expose the truth that Christianity is being criminalized—and that we must stand up against it now .

BACK COVER

[Head]

“You Have the Right to Remain Silent…”

Which of the following actually happened in America ? A man is fired for displaying Bible verses in his work space. A judge orders a mother not to teach her daughter anything that could be considered “homophobic.” High school students are trained to roam the halls in search of verbal “offenses” to report to law enforcement officers. A pastor faces a prison sentence for reading from the Bible. All of the above.

[In smaller point size]:

ANSWER:

[PRINTED UPSIDE DOWN]:

E) All of the above. Here’s where: A) Idaho , B) Colorado, C) West Virginia, and D) Pennsylvania .

[back to normal body copy sized font]:

As a Christian in this country, you may be understandably reluctant to speak out on moral issues like abortion, homosexuality, or pornography. But while we have the right to remain silent, that’s not what God calls us to do.

Because if the world can silence the truth, it will silence the gospel.

Don’t believe it? Read this book.

INSIDE LEFT FLAP:

(to wrap to back flap if more space is needed):

The Agenda to
Silence the Church

In The Criminalization of Christianity, Janet Folger presents a well documented and frightening road map of how Christianity is slowly becoming against the law in America . The movement to ban public prayer and to ban public displays of the Ten Commandments or of any other Christian symbols was only the beginning. She shows convincingly how the ultimate aim is to make Christianity against the law.

The Criminalization of Christianity explains where the threat is coming from and suggests what we as Christians can do to preserve our rights.

William J. Murray, Chairman Religious Freedom Coalition
Son of Madalyn Murray O’Hair, plaintiff in a case to remove school prayer

[Start of body copy]:

People in New York are fired from their jobs. Kids in California are suspended from school. Pastors in Sweden are sentenced to prison. Their crime involves nothing more than exercising their religious freedoms.

At first the attacks against Christianity were subtle. The Supreme Court ruled that children can’t pray in school. The Ten Commandments were removed from our classrooms and, later, our courtrooms. Now pastors are being imprisoned for speaking out against homosexuality from their own pulpits.

How in the world did we get to this place in a “free” and civilized society? And how far will it go?

While headlines reveal a gradual undermining of moral values in our society, the truth between those lines silently screams that our very freedom is at stake. Now this provocative book exposes the attack on values for what it is: a pointed war being waged against Christians and the faith they profess.

A frequent guest on such programs as 20/20, Hannity and Colmes, Hardball, and Inside Politics, conservative advocate Janet Folger uncovers the hidden anti-Christian agendas that are driving public policy, key court decisions, public school regulations, political correctness in the media, and modern-day censorship.

The question is, how will you respond? At a time when upholding traditional values has somehow become synonymous with “intolerance,” will you rise up and defend your religious freedoms —before it’s too late?

Story Behind the Book

In 1997, Janet Folger heard a speech by Bob Knight of the Family Research Council in which Knight said that the ultimate goal of the homosexual movement was the criminalization of Christianity. At the time, Janet considered his comment to be an overstatement. But then she watched, listened, and learned. Now pastors in Sweden are being thrown into prison for speaking against homosexuality from their own pulpits. Canadians are being fined tens of thousands of dollars for refusing to print materials they are morally opposed to. Can an intensified assault in the U.S. be far behind?

About the Author

Janet L. Folger is the president of Faith2Action, which works together with the most effective organizations in America to win the cultural war for faith and family. She also served as the national director of the Center for Reclaiming America, founded by Dr. D. James Kennedy, where she launched an online effort that resulted in one of the largest pro-family grassroots armies in the nation—more than five hundred thousand strong. One of her previous books, True to Life, describes her experiences as a pro-life advocate who successfully lobbied for the passage of the nation’s first partial-birth abortion ban.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marshalling the troops, August 16, 2005
By William Muehlenberg (Melbourne Australia) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This book makes for scary reading. Even if it were only half true (which I do not think is the case), it would still be very scary reading. The sad truth of the book is that there is a war going on, and those who hold to faith and family values are subject to a relentless and focused attack.

Many of us have been aware of some of the moves to silence believers, to push activist agendas, to stifle freedom and to straightjacket the churches. But to see all this information concentrated in a book which can be read in one sitting makes for sobering reading.

And many of us have been aware of the persecution of believers in countries such as China, North Korea and Sudan. It seems harder to believe that active persecution and suppression of the faith is happening in the "Christian" West. But that is indeed the case.

In this book horror story after horror story is laid out, documenting the very real assaults on our freedoms and our faith. Consider but a few examples.

-Believers in Philadelphia faced felony charges and jail time for simply quoting from the Bible in public.

-Two Christians (one heavily pregnant) were ordered off a bus and had to walk home in the rain because the driver said their discussion of their faith might "offend" other passengers on the bus.

-A Canadian believer and print shop owner who declined to print homosexual material was found guilty of discrimination by the Ontario Human Rights Commission and fined $5000, which went to the homosexual group. He also now has to pay off a $170,000 legal fee.

-A group called American United for Separation of Church and State is sending people to churches to monitor sermons to see if there are any so-called church/state separation violations.

-In Quebec government officials removed a child from her Baptist family because "they might have unusual beliefs regarding child-rearing".

-In a California town $500,000 of public money was spent on constructing a statue to an Aztec god. The Aztecs of course were notorious for their countless child sacrifices. While this was held to be a "cultural symbol," the same council removed a nativity scene.

-A pro-homosexual ordinance in Madison Wisconsin resulted in this outrage: Two women advertised for a roommate. When they declined to take in a lesbian, they were forced by the Equal Opportunity Commission to attend "sensitivity training", pay the lesbian $1500, write a formal apology, and have their housing situation "monitored" for two years. One of the women said in tears that she felt like she was living in totalitarian China instead of democratic America.

Such examples can be multiplied at length. Every day new anti-faith outrages are taking place, and the obvious question to ask is: "How long before Christianity is outlawed altogether?"

As can be seen, some of these threats to religious freedom come by way of the homosexual activists. But there are plenty of other threats to those concerned about faith and family. Radical civil libertarian groups and pro-abortion activists also come to mind. And the author has certainly been involved with these groups before, especially in her many years as a tireless pro-life campaigner. Indeed, her first book, True to Life, describes her remarkable work on behalf of the unborn.

Her first book contained a number of examples of how creative and thoughtful activities can be implemented to work for a culture of life. That same concern for pro-active strategies and tactics is found here. Janet Folger does not just highlight the war we are in, but also offers practical help in how we can win these battles.

A threefold plan of attack is laid out: working together; moving from defense to offense; and controlling the debate. We cannot just sit by and respond in only a defensive position, but we must work together to preemptively and proactively tackle the issues. She ends her book by looking at how various successes already have been achieved, and how in this fight we must recognize the spiritual battle which is also taking place.

The job of any good prophet is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. And Janet Folger, in true prophetic fashion, manages to do both in this timely and important book. Those who have been involved in the culture wars will not find too much new material here. And some may question her concluding comments on the end times. But all should find a renewed hope and sense of calling to confront the many challenges we face. This vital wake-up call deserves a wide hearing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Speech and Religion are NOT what they were 20 years ago, December 28, 2007
I don't want to get into a polemic dispute here, since I doubt most of the people opposed to this book have even read it, I simply state a fact. I'm 46 years old and it's completely obvious that freedoms of religion and speech are NOT the respected and protected beliefs they were 20 to 30 years ago. While certain current minority groups have more protection than ever, it's clear that in the next 10 to 20 years traditional freedoms(many are already gone) as we've known them for years is a thing of the past and the evidence is overwhelming that the soon-to-be majorities have no intention of providing us (The current majorities) with the same protections we have afforded them since at least the 1970's-example: Why did the police officers who beat Rodney King get re-tried under "hate crimes" laws when the gang members who permanently disabled Reginald Denney while attempting to kill him because he was white got off, when both crimes were clearly caught on film, not to mention that King is a now multi-millionaire ,who would be jailed permanently under any state with a "persistent felon law", while Denney is poor and disabled?.Who would you rather be? When it comes to the separation of church and state, the left has turned the original intent of the disestablishment clause on it's head and as for racial and homosexual agendas, it's clearly nothing but payback time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative and Frightening, July 20, 2005
By Alan Holmes (Chicagoland, IL) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I found this to be a very inspiring book. I'm not one to usually get involved with any cause aside from maybe making a donation to an organization I believe in, from time to time. However, this book really opened my eyes to some terrible truths and has really inspired me to become more closely involved with some of these causes.

Folger, who is primarily known for her right-to-life involvement for many years, spends a majority of the first portion of the book showing real-life (and very well documented and annotated) examples of how Christians are repeatedly singled out and discriminated against. She illustrates how the crowd who largely and loudly preaches "tolerance" as be-all and end-all are the ones who are violently, unabashedly, and hatefully intolerant of Christians.

Stories ranging from the common, such as gay and lesbian organizations being granted meeting space in public buildings, but denying Christian groups the same, to the outright disturbing accounts of gay activists storming churches, urinating and defecating on the carpet during a worship service abound in this book. It illustrates the extent to which Christianity is under attack, and that it's only the beginning.

She reveals the tactics of various anti-Christian groups and gives plenty of examples of how those tactics have come to fruition. These tactics generally are designed to inflict as much damage on Christian morals and values while making Christians look like the bad guys.

She also points out how anti-Christian groups are systematically using court cases and lawsuits to set legal precedent. Knowing full well that if legislation were put to a vote, either by referendum or as a bill in Congress, it would fail, these groups use members the judicial branch that repeatedly overstep their Constitutional bounds and, in essence, create law from the bench.

Folger sees the increasing amount of activist judges who repeatedly abuse their power as the single greatest threat to our country. She also points out that Congress has the power to do something about it (a part of the book I found VERY interesting and which made me realize that I need to go back and re-read the Constitution).

Folger does a great job of summing everything up in the end. She presents the Gospel in clear and plain language. She calls everyone to action.

The only criticism I can make of this book is that she plugs her Faith2Action organization several times expounding on the wealth of information and resources that supposedly exist on the website. While there are links to great news stories there, I cannot find half of the information she claims to be there in her book. It is possible, however, that a paid subscription is necessary to access this apparently missing information which is a step I have yet to take.

I'm not really sure what book some of the previous reviewers were reading (my guess is they haven't read the book at all and are just throwing bombs). I also would love for "Ashley Wood" (who wrote one of the reviews and whom, I suspect, never read this book) to show me where in the Constitution the words "Separation of Church & State" appear (which she put in quotation marks implying she was quoting from the Constitution itself, and attributed the words to "our very wise forefathers"). Putting this idea of the separation of church and state into people's heads and the idea that it actually exists in the Constitution is one of the great successes of some of these anti-Christian groups that Folger details in her book.

It goes to prove that if you say something loud enough and long enough, people will eventually believe it.
