Fantastic follow-up!!, July 26, 2003
I've been a fan of Moore since his first book, and this is a fantastic follow-up. This book is a real bible for anyone working with VB .NET and ASP.NET.It starts at the beginning, with a warm introduction to anyone new to the world of .NET. Then it gets down to its no-nonsense method of delivering "secrets". Each chapter is split into two sections... the "Essentials" and the "Secrets". The Essentials briefly clues you up and provides short bullet points to refresh your memory and straighten out any difficult points. Then the Secrets section gets into the real juice, explaining all those real "nuggets" of information that you only find out about once in a blue moon... like how to create programs that automatically update themselves, or where you can download a program to auto-write your code for you, or which parts of the .NET Framework contain bugs and how to work around them. This is SUCH a refreshing change from the usual trashy Wrox publications, which simply seem intent on explaining the theory, or telling you how to install the thing, or how to create simple programs. This provides absolute real-world code to use instantly. It covers everything from Windows development, Web development, Web services, C# - and everything else a developer needs. Plus, make sure you download the source to go with this book. I did and it's got a few extra code chunks.
