Product Description
We are standing at the threshold of a new and exciting medical era-an era of regeneration, rejuvenation, and renewal in which stems cells will set the stage for healing and in some cases, the restoration of injured, diseased, and debilitated tissues and organ. While stem cell therapy is still in its infancy, the field is rich with promise. The debate over the use of embryonic stem cells and the questionable effectiveness of adult stem cells have led many scientists and clinicians to concentrate their energies on umbilical-cord-derived stem cells from healthy newborn babies. While these cells are technically classifed as "adult stem cells," they appear to have greater restorative and regenerative potential than stem cells derived from adult tissues due to their young age. Human umbilical-cord stem cells (hUCSCs) have demonstrated great efficacy in promoting the healing of many conditions. In the last decade or so, pure cord-blood stem cells have been used by physcians to treat a mulitude of intractable diseases such as progressive multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, certain degenerative eye disorders, stroke, diabetes, and various forms of heart disease. While certainly no cure all, umbilical-cord stem cell therapy appears to be amassing a respectable track record in terms of both safety and clinical utility. In "Umblical Cord Stem Cell Therapy: The Gift of Healing from Health Newborns", Drs. steenblock and Payne share some of the science that underlies stem cell therapy and put a human face on this field with accounts of people who have benefited from hUCSC treatments. And, in providing this information, they encourage readers to take that bold first step into this vast and wondrous medical frontier.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid, Lay Level Introduction to an emerging area , May 22, 2006
By Lab Rat "Bob" (Plano, Texas) - See all my reviews
Don't pay any heed to the naysayers. This book gives a good lay level introduction to an emerging field. So far as I can tell, neither Dr. Steenblock or Dr. Payne claim to be stem cell experts, just observers & writers sharing information and true life patient case histories of patients treated by Dr. Fernando Ramirez as part of his Mexican government sanctioned stem cell program. Dr. Payne, BTW, has a doctorate in nutritional medicine from an accredited program in the Philippines and has had some of his work published in such peer reviewed journals as Medical Hypotheses and Science. A simple Medline search would turn up some of these papers and professional letters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Armed me with understanding, info, geat stories and more! , June 12, 2006
By Garth (Flagstaff, AZ. USA) - See all my reviews
So many science books are "ho hum" -- difficult to wrap your brain around. Not this baby. I found this introductory book on cord blood stem cells and therapy remarkably easy to take in, digest and remember. The patient histories are compelling and the writing is logically structured and actually beautiful. I wish my college science profs could have communicated hard topics as easily as Drs. Steenblock and Payne do. Reminds me in some ways of Carl Sagan's writing. I highly recommend that anyone wanting to know more about stem cells - especially cord blood stem cells -- get this book.

By Karen H (New York, New York USA) - See all my reviews
This is my kinda book -- concise, fact-based and filled with deliciously heartwarming stories of adults and children who are making their way to better health thanks to cord blood stem cells. I've bought copies for coworkers, friends and family and hope those reading this review do likewise.
