Editorial Reviews

Review

I totally enjoyed "Wayne's Dead" and I felt I was reading a "Law and Order" script. I recommend it highly! -- Louise Riveiro-Mitchell,Reviewer, Book Review Cafe

This is a well-crafted story with true-to-life characters with the relationships between the characters developed fully. -- Barbara Buhrer, Reviewer, Myshelf.com, August 6, 2002

Product Description

Jackson Daniels, investigative detective with the Knoxville Police Department, is called to the scene of a murder at a ritzy hotel in Knoxville. A dead man lies on the bed, above his mutilated body the words, Wayne's Dead, have been written. Jackson and his team of detectives ascertain fairly quickly that they are faced with a brutal serial killer who has been on the loose in the Southeast for the past twelve years. Choosing married, middle-aged attorneys as prey, the killer seduces them, murders them, and then mutilates the body afterwards, leaving the same message on the wall above the victims. Frustrated over the lack of evidence found at each scene, Jackson and his team frantically search for their perpetrator, never suspecting that the person they are trying to find has been with them from the start.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Page-Turner, November 11, 2003
By Laura Welch (Reno, NV) - See all my reviews
A serial killer who murders, then mutilates victims and writes "Wayne's Dead" on the wall in their blood. A jaded homicide investigator who is distracted from the investigation by his love affair with a peripheral witness. A psychologist who struggles with his indecision regarding whether or not to contact the police about his patient, the killer. A beautiful young woman who loves the lead investigating detective intensely yet harbors dark secrets. Does the serial killer actually suffer from MPD or not? You decide.

I read this book in one day - the story moves quickly and held my attention throughout the book with characters you love and those you hate. The dialogue seems real-life, some of the scenes are realistically grisly, and the love affair between Jackson and Gillian intense. Reminds me of the Davenport series by John Sandford.

Great read. I highly recommend this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bought this book due these reviews, March 8, 2003
And you all were right.

This book was a captivating read from start to finish. I couldn't put it down. It is a rather short novel but very good. I felt the characters were well drawn and eventually, I did guess the perp at about the first or second chapter. A good mystery that was very good but in a class of its own. I wish there were more books out there by this author that I can find. Thanks to your reviews, I am glad to have read this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spine Tingling Thriller, October 15, 2003
By Cindy Farrell (Knoxville, TN) - See all my reviews
After reading this author's other two books, I made sure I had enough time to read "Wayne's Dead" without interruption before starting. Again, I was drawn into the story from the first and remained engrossed throughout. I can't decide which of her books I prefer, they're all that good. But if you're a thriller lover, this book will not disappoint. It moves like a "Law and Order" script - fast and succinct, no lapses or dull parts. The charcterization is the best, the dialogue freshly real and gritty, and with vivid scenes. The romantic story within the murder investigation is a real bonus. French writes kind of like a cross between John Sandford and Elmore Leonard.

I won't give a summary since that's been done already and can only add this is a mesmerizing look at a serial killer suffering from MPD and the frantic search by the investigators to track their killer before another attorney falls prey.
