Editorial Reviews

Product Description

This remarkable compilation gives you portions of every address Bush has given in public life about faith in God, his commitment to life and freedom, patriotism, and his hope in the American people.

From the Publisher

George W. Bush on God and Country gives the reader the context from which the media pulls the sound-bites. Freiling organizes the speeches into topical themes: for example, the September 14, 2001 speech is titled "On Resolve. Other themes include compassionate conservatism, the use of prayer in American history, medical ethics, American values, the right to life, and justice. Using the original speeches from White House transcripts, Freiling removed the introduction, applause pauses and transcription errors. These minor changes do not take away from the strength of Bush’s vision for the America and freedom.

4.0 out of 5 stars Liberal Reader- "To See What It Says", September 28, 2005
By A. Moon "moon_willow" (Lansing, Mi United States) - See all my reviews
I'll admit it, i haven't read this book- but I want to. Yes, I am a liberal. Yes, I dislike Bush and voted against him. Yes, I will probably disagree with most of this book. So?

I see all of these angry readers who have said, "I don't agree with Bush's beliefs, therefore I don't recomend it" or "Bush is a hypocrit, reponsible for this or that, so I don't recomend his book."

I don't know what any of that has to do with deciding on buying the book. I want to read this book for 1 reason and 1 reason only- to see what it says! Not to agree,or necessarily believe- but definatly to see what Bush wants us to percieve about him. It's not going to replace my bible, my Constitution or my brain.

A lot of people here seem to think that anything that expresses a viewpoint other than your own is automatically 'bad' or 'crap.' Well, that is very illiberal thinking. Read opposing viewpoints, know the arguments on both sides, and even if you hate the man and hate his politics, know what he has to say. Really, we should all listen before we argue! Otherwise we are just talking to the dust.
