Editorial Reviews

From Booklist
Its title echoing the enduring how-to guide Golf My Way by Jack Nicklaus (1974), this instructional from Sorenstam is technically orthodox. Perhaps its prime attraction, besides the author's fame and telegenic smile, will be Sorenstam's allusions to deficiencies in her swing that she remedied en route to becoming professional golf's top female player of the past decade. She reports that in early days on tour she was unable to drive the ball far, three-putted too often, and was nervous about bunker shots. Her solutions to these common problems were to delay the uncocking of the wrists on the downswing; putt to the high side of the cup; and in the bunker, assess the lie and set up correctly--all standard-issue counsel. But if it works for Annika, why not for me, thinks the ever-optimistic weekend player, and Sorenstam's I'm-like-you attitude infuses an entirely friendly and comprehensible presentation of how to play golf. Photographic presentations of Sorenstam practicing exercising combine with asides about her personal life to create a popular golf book-- guaranteed. Gilbert Taylor

4.0 out of 5 stars great instruction, even if a bit self-congratulatory, October 12, 2004
By J. Duncan (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
this book follows the tradition of nicklaus's "golf my way" and tiger's "how i play golf," mixing information about the player's personal background and competitive experiences along with instruction. whereas jack's was more tilted to instruction and tiger's towards personal background, annika's strikes a nice balance between the two, mixing background and instruction seamlessly.

the instructional aspect is well organized (something tiger's lacked) and complete. it's a great representation of a golf swing that relies more on free swinging arms coordinated with the body and less on (back breaking) "reverse C" leverage. even though a lot of the drills will be familiar to golfers already the good thing is that annika picks the best ones out of the thousands out there, and they really reinforce the important elements of her great swing. i firmly believe that if someone were just to follow annika's program, they would become as good a player as they're capable of becoming -- the mental drills and on-course approach/attitude tips are very well selected and powerful too.

on the personal side, i find the book marginally self-congratulatory. for example, she seems to think her men's pga experience at colonial was a great success on par with billie jean king beating bobby riggs in tennis, but the reality is she missed the cut by several shots -- a worse performance than michelle wie in a men's pga tournament when she missed the cut by just one stroke. and some would say her number of major wins is lacking given her skill level and dominance in non-majors.

overall, this is an excellent offering that's better than most golf autobiographies and it's as good as it gets in terms of a comprehensive instruction manual.

5.0 out of 5 stars Golf Anniks's Way, June 7, 2005
By John Murphy (Pennsylvania) - See all my reviews
I am a male that has worked hard mentally, physically and with a golf pro to reduce my high handicap by 10 strokes. The text and photography do a great job of instruction. The transition from the top and backswing as well as iniating the downswing translate into swing improvment. I also liked finding the balls of your feet for balance.
I work hard at physical fitness and her chapter Getting Fit was very helpful. Strong to the core on the fitness ball and the med ball twist was great. I am aware of my abs on practice swings for the first time. I recomend this book for a golfer at any level, and believe readers will be suprised at it's quality.

I'm a beginner golfer and this book has helped me know exactly how to hold the club, how different stances benefit my game and so much more. It's not complicated to read at all. Everything is explained very clearly. I've enjoyed this book so much.
