He was the author of four books in Arco's Toolbox series for professional builders, which included topics on masonry, refrigeration and air conditioning, painting, patching, and sheet-metal work. He has earned a living as a barn-wrecker, nurseryman, farmer, mason, plasterer, carpenter, handyman, leather bag maker, and writer. He has repaired three houses with a combined age of 275 years.
