5.0 out of 5 stars -----Not just for beginners-----, November 18, 2006

    (TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
In looking over the "new" books, I spotted this one and took it home. After cooking for years, it was refreshing to see recipes that I had not thought to make in a long time.

Yes, some of the recipes are for dishes that I still make, (Shepherd's Pie and Macaroni and Cheese) but again it was fun to look at the variation and with one or two different ingredients give the meal a different twist. How long has it been since you've made a real Pineapple Upside-Down Cake or Pound Cake? We're so used to using the boxed mixes that it's almost a surprise to see how much better the scratch cakes are.

It was like taking a refresher course in basic cooking. The chapter on Dressings lists 10 recipes and also the directions for croutons. I well remember that my Mother always made her own salad dressings and with a few basic ingredients, it's not that difficult. Another chapter that I particularly enjoyed was the one on Sauces.

This is a book that any beginner or expert cook can enjoy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Everything classic recipes book, September 12, 2009
The recipes are good but the book came with all the pages uncut and I had to cut them all myself.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cooking for Dummies?, January 14, 2008
I am not a big fan of book series. The 'Everything' series deals with everything from finance to mafia? Not one of your staple books. Think Betty Crocker or Joy of Cooking or even Martha Stewart. Pass.
