Product Description

Long ago the Druids of ancient Ireland invented a writing system called "ogham." The oghams, like the runes of Scandinavia, were also used for magic and divination. The Druids' Alphabet is the perfect handbook for the aspiring modern Druid or Celtophile who wants to know more about these ancient Irish letters. Skip Ellison's clear presentation makes each ogham character come alive for the reader.

From the Publisher

The Druids' Alphabet stands almost alone in its field as a scholarly, yet readable work on the mysterious Druidic writing system known as "ogham." Readers who are tired of mystical sounding nonsense and are looking for a book that separates fact from fiction will find it here. Ellison is careful to distinguish between historically accepted opinion, his own cautious suggestions, and the wild speculation found in other works on the topic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Core Material On Ogham, April 9, 2004
By S. parker "Ian Corrigan" (Madison, Ohio United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
ADF's current Archdruid, Skip Ellison, has done a great favor for those who wish to learn more about the Irish ogham alphabet. This book takes the known scholastic sources concerning the ogham, and lays the information out in a clear and orderly way.

The book begins by presenting the alphabet letter-by-letter, with correspondences for each, and with the commentary and meanings provided from actual Irish sources. It then presents the many different variants of the ogham found in the book of ballymote. Finally, it provides some starting-point ideas about using the ogham for divination and magic, and some useful appendices, including a ready-to-copy set of ogham disks.

Anyone who wants to get a solid understanding of the facts about this mysterious Celtic alphabet should start with this book.

Mr. Ellison provides the reader with an in-depth look at the alphabet of the Druids, how and where it was used, and where archaeologists have found proof of its use. Mr. Ellison is well-versed in the information and provides well-organized information that is easy to understand and follow. A great addition to any library.

This is an excellent starting point for new practioners of Ogham. It's a practical reference for all Neo-Druids,or even for Neo-Pagans that want a new divination tool. It's not just for Keltic seers among us ,to channel the natural forces of trees. It's great also for all clairvoyant truth-sayers and seekers, just to sample Skip Ellison's unique passagework here.
