Las Vegas stage magician Alana Devlin has more up her sleeve than rainbow scarves and fake flowers. She's a bona fide half-fey witch. This comes in handy for her act, but not for her life when a serial killer targeting people who are somehow related to magic puts her at the top of his list. It's up to Detective Leo Grady to offer her human protection before the killer strikes again. Ruth's plot needed a bit more smoke and mirrors. It won't take readers long to figure out whodunit, and one wonders why Alana and Leo take so long, and why they fail to fully investigate the big clues placed in their path. However, Ruth does a wonderful job building her paranormal world, which is heavily based on Celtic mythology, and readers will find a soft spot in their hearts for Leo. With two other Devlin siblings waiting in the wings, Ruth could easily spin this book into a series. Nina Davis
