Childrens' book illustrator Emily Noble shows up at Christovao Santos' remote Brazilian farm compound fevered, bruised, and armed. She is trying to find her half-brother, James King, who had instructed her to look up Santos if ever he went missing. At first she is held as a prisoner until James himself turns up, who, together with Chris and their African comrade, Sami, are the targets of a murderous madman they had worked with when they were mercenaries. The combination of innocent romance and international adventure will appeal to readers who like hot-blooded yet reasonable protagonists actually willing to wait to consummate their relationship.
