An author with a background in psychology presents a fascinating case history in his first novel. Daniel Rooney, a nursing-home administrator with an M.B.A., is a classic control freak. His sister, Phoebe, is a sociopath who can't seem to stay out of trouble. When he decides to be a good brother and permit Phoebe to serve her probation volunteering at his nursing home, his life changes radically. It seems that Phoebe has been using her volunteer position to gain control over the assets of one of the patients. Daniel is afraid that his reputation will be ruined, but he is also intrigued by the fact that Phoebe has scammed more than a million dollars. Why not cut himself in for a share? Soon his well-ordered life begins to unravel as he follows a path of deception and betrayal leading to murder.
