About the Author
Ellen Winner is an initiate into the Himalayan Rai and Tamang shamanic traditions, a Foundation for Shamanic Studies Three-Year Program graduate, and a Harner Method certified shamanic counselor. At her day job, she is a patent attorney with Greenlee, Winner and Sullivan. She lives with her husband in Boulder, Colorado.

This is an entertaining story of a woman's life, struggling to support a family, while looking for the real meaning in life. It's a real page turner. I like books that take me deep into another person's psyche, and this one surely does. You're right there with her as she deals with everyday life, children, difficult husband and all, and right there with her in the same way as she travels to Nepal and meets her shaman teachers. Nothing is held back. The author tells it like it is - their shamans' tricks, their human foibles, and the secrets they taught her for contacting the spirit world. You're right there with her for that, and for how it feels to bring it back home to Colorado. What I liked most is that you don't have to be a "believer" to understand this book. The author was trained as a scientist. She doesn't stop using her mind to try to make sense of her experiences. But also she doesn't twist what happens to fit what her mind says has to be true. I highly recommend this book. It's got a good plot that carries you along, while not being afraid to deal with some of the most basic and frightening ideas that can haunt you in the wee hours of the night.
