Dekker gradually discloses his protagonist's nightmarish childhood and delivers an almost perfect blend of suspense, mystery and horror. Dekker's prose is strong, putting him in a league above many other evangelical Christian writers and showing improvement over his previous work. Aside from following certain Christian fiction guidelines such as making his gorgeous 20-something characters entirely virginal, Dekker eschews most of the conventions of evangelical fiction. His spiritual message is subtle and devoid of the theologically and politically conservative agenda present in other novels.

This book took my breath away. Ted Dekker has a gift for writing suspense thrillers that few can match. The story starts of when our hero, Kevin, receives a phone call from a man who calls himself Slater. Slater tells Kevin that if he doesn't call a newspaper and report his sin to the world in thr3e minutes, his car will be blown sky high. The only problem is, Kevin has no idea what sin Slater is talking about. Thus starts a cat and mouse game between good and evil. Every time Kevin gets closer to finding out what Slater wants, theirs a new twist and everything the reader thinks he knows about Kevin and Slater will be proved wrong.

I have to say that the last five chapters of the book were the best chapters on any book I have ever read. While reading those chapters I felt happy and sad. I laughed and I cried. I felt hapless and victories. This is a must read for any one.

This was the first Ted Dekker book I read, and still my favorite of his. His characters don't live in a "Kum Bay Yah" world like a lot of Christian fiction, but in a place more akin to our own world, with its complexities and large patches of darkness. Even if you see the ending coming, Thr3e is a compelling read.

This is the book that got me hooked on all of Ted Dekkers books...a must read. And the movie wasnt bad either
