Amazon.com Review
It's impossible to resist the charms of picture book pals Dog and Bear. Where Dog (a frisky daschund) is brave and boisterous, colorful stuffed animal Bear is shy, and--much like the beloved curmudgeons Frog and Toad have for generations--their playful misadventures illustrate the joys of having a best friend at your side. Young readers will delight in these clever little vignettes and marvel as they watch Dog and Bear animate each page with big, bold color and expression. Take a look at a sample of pages from Dog and Bear below--or listen to author Laura Vaccaro Seeger read from the book at the top of this page--and discover a new reading treasure that would inspire any child to plead (as Dog does to Bear), "Read to me!"

Lemons Are Not Red

The Hidden Alphabet

From School Library Journal
Starred Review. PreSchool-Grade 2—In this endearing picture book, a tail-wagging dachshund and a multicolored stuffed bear star in three tales about friendship. In the first, Dog wants to go outside, but Bear is perched atop a tall chair and can't get down. It takes encouragement and ingenuity, but the pooch eventually helps his pal descend; unfortunately, Bear's scarf has been left behind. Next, Dog wants to play and brings out numerous toys, but Bear is busy reading. At last, he closes his book and asks, "What shall we do?," and the pup appears with a stack of volumes ("Read to me!"). Finally, Dog decides to change his name. Bear points out that none of the traditional canine choices is suitable, imagining what his friend would be like if he were called Spot (speckled with colorful dots), Fluffy (pink, with a cotton-candy body), or Prince (dressed in royal regalia). They reach a consensus when Bear suggests "My Best Friend Dog" (Dog for short). The characters and a few highlighted objects are drawn with thick black lines, colored with bright variegated hues, and set against white backdrops. The eye-catching artwork shines with humor and warmth. Told with simplicity and charm, this story is appropriate for sharing aloud or for newly confident readers.—Joy Fleishhacker, School Library Journal

5.0 out of 5 stars Touching and funny book, March 21, 2008
By Linnea's Mom (Copenhagen, Denmark) - See all my reviews
I am always on the look-out for children's books that make ME laugh - if by some chance THIS is the book that my child will want me to read 5 million times a day, then I won't have the urge to throw it out of the window at an opportune moment!
It is a loving, sweet and subtle funny book, which I would definitely recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars An instant classic, April 14, 2007
A Kid's Review
I am a first grade teacher and my class was so enamored with this book that I promised them that I would leave a review on behalf of all the children. Dog and Bear are two characters who will, without a doubt be instant classics, right along with Frog and Toad and George and Martha. They are endearing and adorable and were instantly loved by all from the first reading on. Seeger does a superb job of creating characters to whom children can relate and love. To Ms. Seeger: Félicitations! Travail bien fait!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great book, January 2, 2008
A Kid's Review
The quality and style of the artist's work in this book was amazingly awesome. I think that the characters in Dog and Bear are really great and I wish that there were more Dog and Bear books. They remind me of feelings that I have sometimes and I've also got a best friend like dog so I understand how bear feels. I really like this book a lot.
