Book Category: Fiction/SuspenseDECEPTION'S GUARD Author: Jacqueline G. Randolph DEA agent Skye, is assigned to guard and protect Rhys Wielde with her life. Unfortunately, the thing Skye ends up guarding is her own desire for the powerful, handsome CEO. Rhys and Skye find themselves embroiled in danger in Peru and Ecuador, where drug lords are king and our two heroes find that life can be complicated indeed. This book is exciting and suspenseful from start to finish. The plot never fails to leave the reader hanging on for more. In depth character synopsis give the story an under current of romance while the characters struggle with past disappointments and present commitments. Misunderstandings, which remain unresolved almost to the end, lead to some intriguing interaction between the two main characters. First time author Jacqueline Randolph's experience with the US Air Force as an officer and pilot gives credence to the storyline, the settings and the character's professions. Readers are drawn in with a winning blend of suspense, romance and intrigue in this compelling literary drama. This is a "can't put down" novel that this reviewer highly recommends. Love vs. Deception, September 22, 2003
In his adult life Rhys Wielde is the CEO of the company he developed to merge computer technology and biology in such a way that will allow for positive human advancement. When Rhys learns that one of his hand selected employees is responsible for developing a dangerous new drug he joins the team of DEA investigators committed to identifying and punishing the guilty parties. It is through his work with the DEA that Rhys meets Skye, the DEA agent assigned to protect him. However, because Skye often relies on the use of secret identities in her work, it is not until several encounters that Rhys learns who she really is. As the two travel from state to state and country to country, they must trust and rely on one another for their own safety. Through their adventures they soon realize that their attraction to one another cannot be denied. DECEPTION'S GUARD has a hearty portion of adventure coupled with plenty of romance. The author's vivid descriptions of the various settings of the book bring the locations and their respective culture alive. While the adventure aspects of the book kept the story going, I found myself getting frustrated by the slow development of the romance plot. In addition, I would have liked a little more back story on Skye's life so that I could better understand her motivations and actions. In spite of these things, the book is an admirable freshman effort for Randolph that is worth checking out. Reviewed by Stacey Seay of The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers

Deception's Guard by Jacquelyn G. Randolph, March 25, 2008
In the preface of this book Jacqueline Randolph informs the reader that she wrote this book in four days. You are probably wondering how anyone can write a book in four days let alone make it a good novel. If this is what you are thinking, you are going to be in for a big surprise.
After graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Rhys Wielde had built Genoreach Technology. The company specializes in both research in the development of biology and information systems.
As a teenager, Rhys had a very interesting time. He was able to hack several top-secret military defense programs of government contractors. The good thing is he did not try to change any of the information but left a nice email stating "Have a great day!" just to let someone know he was able to enter the system. Then he would devise a system that would lead the recipient back to him in two months. Rather than prosecute him, the Defense Department was very interested in his skills and offered college scholarships in return for his consultation in working with the security teams in order to improve their system.
Now the tables have turned. Rhys has been informed by the DEA and Department of Justice that some of his employees are involved in drug trafficking. They made deals with Latin American drug lords to create a product, which will increase the drug trade. How did they do this? Genoreach has been identified as the originator of an artificial gene which annihilates all withdrawal and rehabilitative brain functions of drug users; creating incurable addicts once ingested. The artificial gene's code name is Omega.
The DEA asks for Rhys' help in order to identify and capture these individuals. Rhys agrees to assist. Even though he does not know it, Rhys is surrounded by security teams and is assigned a personal bodygurard named Skye Matthews. Skye is quite interesting because she is an actress, a pilot and has been one of the top DEA agents for ten years. Even though Skye knows better, she is becoming more and more attracted to Rhys.
Their mission takes them on a wild ride from Colorado to Peru and to Ecuador. This is no ordinary trip. The reader will have to hold on to the edge of their seats.
What happens to Rhys and Skye? Are they successful?
The author has a very interesting background and the reader will feel her knowledge and experience flowing through this novel. This book has all the ingredients needed to make it a good novel - suspense, romance, betrayal and deception. As a reviewer, one of the things I like to see in someone's writing is a great deal of description where little is left to your own imagination. Jacqueline G. Randolph does an excellent job in this area. The author shows the reader that she is a talented writer and I look forward to reading more of her books.
