Editorial Reviews

Product Description
An in-depth look at the greatest sporting events of all time from some of the biggest names in sports media and entertainment.

From the Back Cover
Sports broadcasters and journalists get the chance to see a lot of memorable events, either on the job or as fans. Now, you can read about their experiences at some of the most famous sporting events of all time.In Being There, Eric Mirlis presents lists from 100 of the biggest names in the sports media of the Top 5 events they have seen in person, along with recollections from their experiences at each event. Legendary locales such as Fenway Park, Madison Square Garden, Augusta National, and Lambeau Field have seen some of the most historic moments in sports, and now legends like Pat Summerall, Marv Albert, Keith Olbermann, Ernie Harwell, and Keith Jackson tell you what it was like to be there. But it is about more than just the events. It is about the experience. What was going through Joe Starkey's mind as he was calling the final play of the 1982 Cal-Stanford game? What were Verne Lundquist's thoughts while Tiger Woods' chip was hanging on the edge of the 16th hole at the 2005 Masters? Thirteen contributors were there when the New York Rangers won their first Stanley Cup in fifty-four years, but each had a completely different tale. Read all of these stories and more. From Game 6 of the 1986 World Series to Super Bowl III to the night Cal Ripken, Jr. broke one of the most hallowed records in sports, these are the kinds of moments every sports fan wished they had the opportunity to see live. Reading this book is the next best thing to "Being There."

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Sports Book I Ever Read!, June 12, 2007
Mr. Mirlis' capacity to capture the thoughts and recollections of these wonderful sportsmen (and women) really made me (and my friends) feel like I was "being there" (of course, no pun intended!). In all seriousness, this book held my interest and I'm proud to say that I am not only a friend of Mr. Mirlis', but that I also own his wonderfully written book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Games for All The Ages, June 12, 2007
Having attended several of the sporting events and watched many of the others described by many of the contributors, I really enjoyed re-living these moments in time. I think a sequel would be a great follow up read. Mr. Mirlis should be commended on his ability to gather such a strong group of contributors.
