Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Nationally known quilter and mixed-media artist Lesley Riley showcases her own work and that of other well-known designers in a series of unique memory books—all made out of fabric. Scrapbookers will discover to their delight that fabric can do things that paper cannot, and they’ll get instructions on printing and transferring photos; a range of binding techniques for all skill levels; and ideas for incorporating both hand and machine sewing. Riley explains how to make an unbound book, alter an existing one, and create special features like accordion folds and button joints. Among the 24 imaginative projects: a painted fabric scroll; an old-world style canvas travelogue with richly textured brocades, ribbons, and images from classical art; and a machine-stitched collage “Starbook.”

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!, January 18, 2007
By Karen Bettencourt "Karen B" (Woburn, MA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is Lesley's second book and well worth the purchase. So many ideas and information, very much like Quilted Memories, but oriented toward making books. It covers: tools needed, fabric usage, book binding methods, etc. There are so many wonderful examples of books made from many types of "fabric" like interfacing and other spun polyester materials, which is really inspirational. I took Lesley's class on making fabric books and this book is the perfect source for remembering and using what I learned. But, you don't need to take her class, all the information you need is right here. Many other artists also contributed work to the book and their efforts are really fun to see. Buy the book soon, you will go back to it often for inspiration and study.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the Best!, January 6, 2007
By Pamela Taylor (Texas-Louisiana border, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
"The art of storytelling in extraordinary fabric books..." Lesley Riley informs and inspires the reader with creative ideas, beautiful projects, and crystal-clear instruction. If you are a first-time fabric bookmaker, you will find step-by-step instructions for 24 beautiful, meaningful projects. If you are an experienced fabric artist, you will find new ideas and exciting inspiration. I have been a student and creator of fabric books for several years, and I found ideas in Lesley's book that I had never come across before. This book is a must-have for anyone interested in fabric art. An extra bonus: the reader feels as though she is the only student in 24 different classes with this renowned fabric artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best I 've seen in Fiber Books, December 30, 2006
By Rosie M. Chapman "Miz Rosie" (Washington Twp., MI USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Just when I thought I had seen it all, Leslie comes up with more unique ideas in creating memory books. Leslie takes you through her thought processes as she covers how to construct one of a kind memory books from fiber. The illustrations, directions and colorful pictures make this book a must have for creative fiber artists, quilters, mixed media artists and crafters.
