Turning Past Despair into Future Hope, September 5, 2009
Recently, I took another trip to Fairweather Key that was equally as enjoyable as my previous two. Beloved Counterfeit is book three in the Fairweather Keys series by Kathleen Y'Barbo. I highly recommend the entire series. If you have not read Beloved Castaway and Beloved Captive you might want to pick them up and read all three.
In Beloved Counterfeit, we read the story of two characters from book two. Ruby O'Shea, who was shipwrecked on Fairweather Key, is starting a new life for herself and her three daughters. This new citizen and Christian is trying to escape from her past. She tells no one of her life on board the pirate ship with the girls' father, notorious pirate, Thomas Hawkins. As Ruby allows herself to hope for a future on the island with the young preacher, Micah Tate, she determines to keep her past private.
Micah Tate is determined to marry her. He promises her safety and love and convinces her that her past doesn't matter. When Thomas Hawkins finds her living on the island will Micah be able to keep all of his promises? Both of them must find out God's love truly covers the multitude of sin.
Beloved Counterfeit delivers a lovely conclusion to the series. Kathleen's clear descriptions make you feel the ocean breeze and taste the salt air. Her vivid characters fill you with longing to visit them. And, as always, her love story touches the heart.

Beloved Counterfeit, June 3, 2009
This is the third book in the Fairweather Key series. Ruby O'Shea is trying to hide from her past. It is a lot to try to hide from --- once a prostitute and sister-in-law to one of the most well known pirates in the Keys. The last person she wants to catch the attention of is the new pastor, Micah Tate, but unfortunately he has already noticed her. They come to an agreement to marry. A marriage that begins as one of mutual benefit gradually grows to one of respect and then love. However, as with all marriages this one is complicated by Ruby's past and her difficulty dealing with her past sins. Finding the way to make the "head" decision move to "heart" proves to be one that is very difficult and provides for an excellent read!

Scarlet to Snow, May 17, 2009
When I was in college, I had a conversation with a friend about how I knew God had forgiven me for my sins, but for some things it would take me longer to forgive myself. He responded that by refusing to forgive myself once God had forgiven me was as if I were saying that God's forgiveness was not enough. That is something that has stuck with me for many years, and probably will for years to come. The point in that message of forgiveness and moving forward with a clean slate is what "Beloved Counterfeit" is all about using the key scripture of Isaiah 1:18
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be of scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
This book is the third in the Fairweather Key series. It can be read alone, or as I did out of order, and when you go back to read the others it will be like learning deeper into a character's heart and past. Having read one, as a reader one will definitely want to experience the others. The main characters have a lot to learn about each other as well as themselves. This is a story about forgiveness, real forgive and forget forgiveness and going forward in life. It may be a message easily taught, but an even more difficult one to live.
I highly recommend this series and cannot wait to read more from Barbour and especially Kathleen Y'Barbo in the future.
