In my writing and coaching I tell people that creating positive personal impact is one of the keys to personal and professional success. As social networking continues to become an increasingly important part of all of our lives, I have come to realize that we all need to create positive personal impact in our virtual, as well as, in person lives.

Recently, I read "42 Rules for 24 Hour Success on LinkedIn." This is a book that will show you how to use LinkedIn to create positive personal impact in your virtual life. Authors, Chris Muccio, David Burns and Peggy Murrah will show you how to make the most out of LinkedIn, the best social networking site for personal and professional success.

I was so impressed with "42 Rules for 24 Hour Success on LinkedIn," that I had a conversation with Chris and Peggy. They told me that there are five things necessary for success on LinkedIn - something that is up and running 24/7/365.

1. Create a strategy for what you want to accomplish on LinkedIn.
2. Create a personal brand.
3. Create a LinedIn profile that supports your brand.
4. Invite people to interact with you on LinkedIn.
5. Execute. Get active on LinkedIn.

The 42 rules in "42 Rules for 24 Hour Success on LinkedIn" develop each of these ideas further. While all of the 42 rules are helpful, my 10 favorite rules include...

I have been on Linked In for a few years and was looking for ideas on how to better leverage it for success. This book offers tips on how to join groups, use Answers and maximize your profile. But it does not cover many of the newer more powerful features such as the applications for Amazon and Wordpress. Nor does it offer real world case studies of how LinkedIn can be used creatively for success. I would recommend this book for those new to social networking and LinkedIn. It is also a useful reference guide for more experienced networkers. [...]

I was looking for a book to learn more about LinkedIn, not just one focused on the basics and... 42 Rules for 24-Hour Success on LinkedIn really delivered!

The book follows the 42 Rules format, meaning that each rule is fairly concise, easy to read and simple to act upon. I travel a lot and really appreciate the opportunity to get well versed in an interesting topic over the course of a flight.

The authors start with a perfect analogy by comparing LinkedIn to fishing. To have any chance for success in fishing, one needs to bait the hook and put the hook in the water. They make the case that it is the same with social networking too. It's doing the simple, subtle things that enable people to be successful with LinkedIn and be successful 24 hours a day.

I recognize that many authors offer a "freebie" with their books, but the free workbook they provide (they give you a link to it in the book), is a great step by step, action guide and easily doubles the value they offer.

With millions of users on LinkedIn, it is nearly impossible to craft a book that addresses everyone's expectations, but I felt this book laid out a very practical and realistic flow for a majority of the users that use LinkedIn. And during times like we are experiencing today I think everyone would want to read this book so they can start putting LinkedIn to work for them and begin to prosper!
