5.0 out of 5 stars A Coaches Dream!, August 19, 2003
Without a doubt, Go Girl is the best motivational book for young women athletes that I've ever read. It takes the reader on a practical, methodical and inspirational journey of self discovery that culminates, in the case of author, Natalie Cook, with an olympic gold medal. From Chapter 1, 'It all starts with a dream' to the end, 'Golden Dawn', Cook writes about her 4-year 'journey to gold' in a way that's not just interesting, but causes the reader to almost subconsciously become the character in the story. You can't help but apply Cook's experiences and observations of self discovery to your own life. As a high school girls volleyball coach I am always looking for ways to inspire and motivate my players and I knew they had to read this book. We made it mandatory summer reading and told them that there would be a test when school started in the fall. In the weeks follwing the test, one player had to stand before the team each day before practice and give a chapter review that included how the content of the chapter might be applied to our team as a whole or to the player as an individual. Everything about Go Girl, from the subject material to the lay-out and design of the book, is done in a way that teenagers can relate to. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspirational, July 29, 2003
This is the first book I have found that captures the essence of mental toughness in sport. It presents the complex nature of how to control your thoughts, so having complete control over what you do. Having a female role model for my junior girls was a real bonus. It has helped me as a coach and those players that have read it are reaping the rewards.

Beach volleyball books now? What will they think of next? Anyway, this one is pretty much a nobrainer for a publisher I would think, given the success of the player involved,... Read more
