Product Description
Games Companies Play is a survival guide.

Gerry Griffin and Ciaran Parker reveal all the tools and tricks to help you plan your response to a political game...a game being played against you.  Polititcs is a tricky business.  Don't be fooled into thinking it's just your imagination.  If you sense a dissipation in your power base or feel that you are being sidelined-you are probably correct.  Trust your intuitions but don't react on your gut emotions.

Games Companies Play gives you the proper framework to plan how you can survive and win during those bruising and emotional political encounters, such as:

  • getting your fair share of budget/resource allocation
  • dealing with the new whiz-kid on the block
  • making sure you come out on top in merging departments
  • getting that promotion/pay-rise
  • keeping your job during downsizing
  • managing a subversive employee/colleague
  • managing your boss
  • winning the long-term game, even in a short-term environment

A quiet revolution is taking place.  If you're not prepared to 'take it' anymore, then grab your pitchfork, lantern (if you must), but most importantly your copy of Games Companies Play.  It's all you need for your corporate survival.

From the Inside Flap
Companies such as Enron, WorldCom and Andersen have shown us the underbelly of senior management and it ain't pretty.  Power is a zero sum game - which means that the more they have, the less you have.  This is always the way it has been and it's not about to change.  You might want to join them in fact.  But in the meantime you have to survive.  And to survive you need to understand how the game of corporate politics works.

In Games Companies Play, Gerry Griffin and Ciaran Parker reveal how to play, and better still, win in the messy, murky and sometimes downright dirty office games that accompany our working lives.

Drawing on the methodology explored in The Power Game and further explored in their much sought-after workshops, Games Companies Play is the answer to surviving those bruising and emotional encounters we all experience in our working world.  It is essential reading if you want to stay alive in the world of work and be ahead of the game.

I bought this book in hopes of navigating the jungle of office politics. Unfortunately this book reads like a very poor term paper, scraping to come up with material to meet the required length.

This book will soon find it's way to the garage sale or the fireplace.
