Product Description

With clean, fresh flavours and great good looks, sushi has never been so popular. It's delicious as a light meal or as part of a more substantial Japanese dinner and makes perfect party food. The term "sushi" is taken from sumeshi, meaning vinegared rice, a vital part of all sushi dishes, In "Easy Sushi" Japanese food writer Emi Kazuko shows you how to cook the rice perfectly and how to make simple rolled sushi using classic ingredients such a cucumber, tuna, or salmon. Once you've mastered the easy ones you can explore more adventurous variations, using easy-to-find ingredients. Emi's philosophy is that creating sushi should be fun and there is even a section on sushi for children. If you thought making sushi was strictly for the professionals. Easy Sushi will amaze you. With Emi's simple-to-prepare recipes, all captured by leading food photographer Peter Cassidy, you will never eat take-out sushi again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful book., February 15, 2002
"Easy Sushi" sounds like an oxymoron, but it's not. I read this book cover to cover in our local library. The only reason I did not check it out or buy it here is simply because I have progressed to more difficult "rolls". It is this book that first gave me the inspiration to try making sushi at home. When you graduate to getting the rice on the outside of the roll, you can give yourself a big pat on the back. Until then, this is the best "starter book" to own. Some helpful tips for the beginner:

1. Only buy flash-frozen or live fish. If you live on the coast this is easy, if you don't...In CO we have something called "par Avion"-fresh fish is flown in once a week. See if they do this in your area. You can always ask a local sushi bar where they got their fish too.

2. Always, ALWAYS learn the proper etiquette to eating sushi. I have offended many sushi bars with bad habits. (i.e. sushi rolls should be eaten in whole..no biting. and- never place your chopsticks on the counter. woops!)

3. You will make mistakes. Making sushi is like making origami...takes patience and practice.

4. Finally, when you've mastered the basics, buy yourself a lovely set of sushi dinnerware and some beautiful chopsticks-Heck! Show off those skills with a sushi party!

A pair of patient hands and this book, will promise you a fabulous new food and artform. If someone compliments your fun and trendy handywork, smile and say, "Arigato!"

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you need and then some, January 4, 2001
By A Customer
I bought this book for my sister for Christmas, and after spending quite a bit of the holidays flicking through it I went out and bought myself a copy. I already own a sushi cookbook and have taken sushi making classes but this book renewed my interest. It has good recipes, interesting new ideas (egg cup sushi is something I am defiantly going to try), shopping sources, and it has plenty of colour photos showing methods and just generally making it look great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Sushi, March 2, 2001

This is my favorite sushi making book. Aside from the beautiful photography, it is a well written book for any person who wants to prepare sushi at home. It is extremely well priced for the quality it contains. If you are a sushi lover it is a must buy.
