This coffee-table book is produced with the kind of care that makes much of the dog-centered stuff out there look crass. William Secord has done it again!As America's premier antique dog portrait aficionado,he has collected images of the most beautiful and best executed dog paintings ever done in Europe and published them in an almost full-color book - a "must have" for dog lovers and dog art collectors around the world! Not only are the pictures a delight to the eye, but the text is interesting and informative to the reader - including the history of each breed depicted, the names of all of the artists, the dates in which the portrait was done,the exact sizes of each painting, the countries in which they were done, and in the back of the book, a complete artists' biographies section so the person who has an old dog painting in his attic can dust it off and look up the artist's name -perhaps discover a masterpiece! William Secord, who is the founder and former director of The American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog, is also the author of DOG PAINTING, 1840-1940: a SOCIAL HISTORY OF THE DOG IN ART...also a must have for the avid dog lover!!

If you have even the slightest interest in dog art - this is a MUST HAVE. Wonderful selection of artists, fabulous photographs, an incomparable educational tool - mind-expanding, virtually no way an ordinary collector could understand the range of possibilities without a tool like this. What a wonderful time the author must have had preparing this amazing book. WELL WORTH THE PRICE!
