From Booklist
Gr. 4^-6. This attractive guide to making books, part of the Step-by-Step activity series, begins with assembling the basic supplies. After introducing the various parts of a book, Stowell then discusses sewing the pages ("Always make sure an adult is around to watch") and making covers with notes about design and illustration. Pop-ups, flaps, and wheels (the latter has detailed directions) are among the sure-to-please specialty features included. Brightly colored and boldly designed, the photographs and drawings extend the simply written, straightforward instructions. Adults working with kids should find this inexpensive book as appealing and useful as their young charges will. A hint: if you're uncomfortable using a needle and thread, try staples for the binding.
