Editorial Reviews

From Booklist
Gr. 4^-6. This attractive guide to making books, part of the Step-by-Step activity series, begins with assembling the basic supplies. After introducing the various parts of a book, Stowell then discusses sewing the pages ("Always make sure an adult is around to watch") and making covers with notes about design and illustration. Pop-ups, flaps, and wheels (the latter has detailed directions) are among the sure-to-please specialty features included. Brightly colored and boldly designed, the photographs and drawings extend the simply written, straightforward instructions. Adults working with kids should find this inexpensive book as appealing and useful as their young charges will. A hint: if you're uncomfortable using a needle and thread, try staples for the binding. 5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful For Kids and Grown-ups, February 24, 2000
By Marsha R Parsons (Portland, Oregon) - See all my reviews
Is your child a budding author? What better way to display their work than helping them make their own book? Making Books was so inspirational and easy to follow. My 9-year old son brought this book home from his school library and I simply had to have a copy for home. I never thought we could make a book, but the directions were very easy to follow and the materials needed were easy to find, even without a trip to the store. We made the most wonderful keepsake a child could have. Even if you're not a "crafty" person, this book makes it easy to create a masterpiece. I would highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Make your own books at home, December 18, 2006
Ever wanted to make your own book? This book will get you started with its wealth of ideas and projects. It includes photos as well as illustrations to guide you along every step of the way. You are shown various binding techniques and gives many different variations for covers. Learn to make non-traditional books like the zig-zag, pop-up and peek-a-boo books. This is a great book to own if your interested ih book binding or work with children in writing.
