Product Description

This new and revised version of "The X-Planes" contains a detailed and authoritative account of each U.S. X-designated aircraft. Each aircraft is fully described, and coverage of history, specifications, propulsion systems, and disposition are included in a logical, readable format. Complementing the text are more than 900 photographs, many of which have never-before been published.

Each X-Plane is also illustrated by an accurate and detailed multi-view drawing, which also provides color scheme information and scale data. Also included are appendices, an index, and miscellaneous tables. For aviation enthusiasts.

The last edition has been out-of-print for nearly a decade, yet is still sought by aviation enthusiasts and historians.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aviation History at it's best., July 30, 2001
By Robert Woodbury (Scarborough, WA Australia) - See all my reviews
Jay Miller is renowned for writing some of the best books ever published on aviation history. He approaches his subjects with a depth of knowledge which is unsurpassed. The level of detail on each aircraft type is mind boggling, but please don't expect this book to be a collection of detail photographs- there are other books around that do that better. Quite simply this is a book for those who have a thirst for understanding and learning about the more obscure technical details of these immensely important experimental aircraft.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent descriptions of some fascinating planes, July 25, 2001
By W. Russell (Springfield, VA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As usual Jay Miller goes the proverbial extra mile to provide detailed information, often found nowhere else, on some of the most fascinating planes ever to fly. This book is for those with intelligence and education, who want more than a simplistic children's "picture book". Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars best x-planes book to date!, August 31, 2001
By anthony j pache jr "tony" (sharpsville, PA United States) - See all my reviews
this books been a long time coming/overdue! if you like the experimental prototype aircraft that paves the way for production line aircraft, then this book is for you. mr miller does an excellent job telling this story beginning with chuck yeagers "sound barrier" bell x-1, to todays stealthy yf-22 rapter and x-45. has my favorite jet in it the north american yf-107a and x-15. us air force museum store highly recommends this book to me. well worth the money if your into aircraft and experimental aircraft from late 1940s to today.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good book
The book is a complete catalog of the X Plane developments over the years. What is a little distracting is the amount of treatment given to the aerospace vehicles that aren't... Read more
