5.0 out of 5 stars A 'must' for any home owner or aspiring home owner , July 18, 2006
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
Any with an old chimney or chimney problems as well as those considering newer construction will want to keep Fireplaces, Chimneys & Stoves close at hand: it considers chimney choices, styles, construction, repair and refurbishment alike, and even delves into appliance installations as it provides charts, diagrams, color photos and clear explanations. A 'must' for any home owner or aspiring home owner wanting to enhance their property with the upgrade and/or installation of a safe and working fireplace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book, a must for anyone rebuilding a chimney or fireplace......, March 12, 2009
By WoodyWW (Massachusetts) - See all my reviews
If you're an average homeowner, & have ever been faced with rebuilding a chimney or fireplace, adding a wood stove, etc, you know how confusing it can be. And trying to decipher the various estimates, & decide what "you really need" (as opposed to what different contractors are telling you), can be difficult.

IMO, rebuilding a chimney is an even more "mysterious" process for the average homeowner, than deciding on vinyl siding say, or a new furnace, even roofing. (If your roof leaks, it's a drag, & can do damage. If your old brick chimney collapses, or the clay liner is detoriorating, that may be one of the most serious issues facing a home/building owner).

This book is so detailed, that I'd bet that almost everything to do with chimneys or fireplaces is covered. It's hardbound, & printed on high-quality glossy paper, with many full-color photos & illustrations.

Highly recommended!
