Product Description
For a penny in 18th century England you could buy a legend or a hero-tale, a recipe for making birch tree wine, or instructions on how to broil wood pigeons. Chapbooks were virtually the only reading matter for the poorer classes and so they provide for us a window that opens upon the heroes and legends, folklore and supersititons of the past. This charming collection contains over 100 chapbooks with facsimiles of the original covers and woodcut illustrations. A delight for history buffs.
