Editorial Reviews

Review

"Gods, Sages and Kings is a very important book. It fills a major void in our understanding of human history... It calls into question our entire view of human history... it is much more significantly a truly spiritual vision of where we come from and who we are." --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very important book on ancient India, July 30, 1998
By A Customer
Challenges old notions regarding ancient Indian history and makes a powerful case for a new view based on new archaeology and literary analysis. A MUST BUY for any lover of Indian history!

5.0 out of 5 stars Life transforming book, September 30, 2002
By Shilpa Garud (Falls Church, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Gods, Sages and Kings (Paperback)
This is an enormous work and very important too, and even though it is difficult to present to a "modern" mind David Frawley has done a great job. The work consists of understanding and interpreting the Vedas properly, which are almost 6-7 thousands years old if not more and are written in Vedic Sanskrit, which again is more complex to understand and interpret than regular Sanskrit. This is a book is very important from the point of ancient India's (true) history as well as is extremely important from the point of view of world's history as we understand today. It is a book that also provides the much-needed encouragement and foundation for anybody seeking a spiritual way of life.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must read book!, June 19, 2000
By A Customer
This is an excellent book which I would reccommend strongly to anyone who is interested in Hinduism or the history of the Vedic Culture in general as it gives both traditional and historical accounts of events in ancient India as well as the significance behind Hindu ideals and deities, the greatness of India's Rich Rishis and Kings! All Traditionalist Hindus should keep a copy in their own homes as it gives Hindus inspiration and glory of their culture, which they should be proud of as David Frawley shows us!

3.0 out of 5 stars Arguments with off-screen critics
I so much wanted this book to be different than it is. I found it full of arguments with "classical" scholars with whom Frawley is in disagreement. Read more
