ABC Feelings is a learning and coloring book for use by an adult and child to share and understand feelings. This book requires interaction by the adult. Not only will they need to explain the meaning of a feeling - sample dialogue is provided along with a picture which shows an action in response to the feeling - but the adult will also need to talk about a time when he experienced it. The next step is for the adult to ask the child, "Can you think of a time when you felt _________?" And, then, the adult listens to the answer without being judgmental. A child may color the picture provided and/or draw or write how they felt when they had the feeling. As the title indicates, 26 feelings are in alphabetical order. Typically identified feelings for young children such as "mad" and "sad" are discussed along with complex "victorious" and "peaceful" and unusual "zippy." The illustrations are more detailed than a standard young-aged child coloring book. These pictures should appeal to an older child. Written for ages 3 and up, ABC Feelings will aid in communication. An adult and child who honestly go through this book together can learn much about each other.
