Editorial Reviews

Review

Home Cell Group Explosion by Dr. Joel Comiskey is a brilliant new comet in the cell church firmament. This paperback book (150 pages) is already having a considerable impact, becoming a "best seller", according to its publisher, Touch Publications. The book crystallizes the author's findings in some eighteen areas of research, based on a meticulous questionnaire that he submitted to cell church leaders in eight countries around the world, locations that he also visited personally for his research. The detailed notes in the back of the book offer the student of cell church growth a rich mine for further reading. The beauty of Comiskey's book is that he not only summarizes his survey results in a thoroughly convincing way but goes on to analyze in practical ways many of his survey results in separate chapters. The happy result is that any cell church leader, intern or member completing this quick read will have his priorities/values clearly aligned and ready to be followed-up -- Henry Paasonen, C&MA Cellnet, March 25, 1998

4.0 out of 5 stars Should be required reading for every cell group leader., June 5, 1999
By A Customer
Cuts through all the theories about why we think cell and small groups grow and provides carefully researched statistical data that proves why they do and why they don't multiply. Every planning/ministry/pastorial team should make this required reading for themselves as well as their group leaders.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent cross-cultural study, February 5, 2008
Comiskey studied the cell-church movement as exemplified by Paul Yonggi Cho's church in Korea. He identified eight other huge cell-churches in different countries and did a survey of the cell leaders as a basis for this book (originally linked to his dissertation). The cell-church model is being adopted by a growing number of large churches in America. The model assumes extremely rapid growth. Most expect their cell groups to double and multiply in six to 12 months. Leadership development goes forward in each cell, as assistant leaders are trained by existing leaders. The central church leadership typically adds a leadership class of several weeks to a year in length, although with the longer programs, the students are already leading groups during most of the training.

Comisky reveals the common threads found in leaders of cell groups that multiply. A very interesting read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy read - Important and Practical Concepts, September 14, 2002
By "shofar" (Kissimmee, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
In Home Cell Group Explosion, the author shows us why the intimate and nurturinging relationships that are shared by members of a small cell group simply cannot be reproduced to the same degree in ultra-large group gatherings. For this reason many traditional churches are unable to meet the needs of their individual members while at the same time striving to fulfill the great commission. He also reveals the main factors for the success of the largest cell-based churches in the world, and shows you why it is the way of the future. You should be able to read the book within a week.
