Editorial Reviews

Review
Jodi Gold and Carole Kammen, co-directors of The Pathways Institute, help individuals search within for those universal tribal values that can be expanded to embrace family, workplace, community, and the world. Through ritual, anecdote, poetry, and prose, Call to Connection introduces the sacred tribal values of: belonging, recognition, rites and rituals, education, service, trust and faith, and completing the circle. Kammen and Gold provide observations of customs gathered through extensive world travel and intimate feedback from workshop participants. Each voice and story constitutes a precious thread which the authors effortlessly weave into a colorful garment designed to fit the focus and size of any group. The last portion of Call to Connection is devoted to a step-by-step guide for putting tribal values into practice today. "It starts in simple ways, with simple actions. It starts with you, and with me, with everyone who hears the word tribe and feels called to bring these values into their life." -- From Independent Publisher

Product Description
A Unique Approach to Modern-Day Isolation! In these modern and complex times, many of us feel isolated and alone. Much of society has lost the sense of belonging, a feeling of connectedness to community, to the earth and to the sacred. Many of us may long for simpler times when people lived in villages, depended on one another, engaged in rituals, and honored the spirit of life.

This extraordinary work explores ways to bring ancient values to our contemporary lifestyles. Part One sets the scene, and sounds the Call: to connection, to the sacred, and for living a tribal philosophy. Part Two teaches the Seven Sacred Tribal Values of Belonging, Recognition, Rites and Rituals, Education, Service, Trust and Faith, and Completing the Circle. In Part Three, the reader is invited to Practice the Values of Tribe in Modern Life with exercises based on the Ten Core Tribal Practices. If offers simple tools for community building with family, friends, intimated relationships, in the workplace, and with the self. The profound message in this book is as applicable today as it was in ancient times. Its message is a call, an invitation to become a member of a sacred tribe: the tribe of humanity.

5.0 out of 5 stars inspired, compelling invite to participate fully in life, April 14, 1998
this is an inspired, compelling invitation to participate and celebrate our most fundamental and necessary human attribute......our relationship to the "God" in each of us. The authors shared their life learned wisdom in a very personal and inclusive way. This book has a transformative message for all.

5.0 out of 5 stars A simple, important book on reclaiming our humanity, April 24, 1998
By A Customer
So many of the keys to living a full life are so obvious, and in Western society we tend to miss out on them so easily. This book is a vision of what life could be like if we all just cared and told the truth. Illustrated with beautiful stories and ancedotes from real live tribes living among us.
