Editorial Reviews

Review

"An important work on a timely topic by a leading spokesperson of the Muslim community in the United States." -- Dr. Yvonne Haddad, Professor, Georgetown University

"Dr. Hathout brilliantly, and in his fascinating style, has put volumes of knowledge in this short work on 'Jihad.'" -- Dr. Muzammil H. Siddiqi, Former President of the Islamic Society of North America

"In clear and precise language, the...author challenges, confronts, and eliminates stereotypical opinions regarding what jihad is and isn't." -- Rabbi Allen I. Freehling, University Synagogue, Los Angeles

Product Description

Jihad vs. Terrorism is Dr. Maher Hathout's profound and timely critique of the current approaches to understanding the Islamic concept of "jihad." This word, in Arabic, literally means, "Struggle." Rather than its popular media connotation of "holy war," Dr. Hathout explains that the true meaning of "jihad" in Islamic traditions is that of an internal spiritual struggle, focused on individual purification and the promotion of social justice and human rights.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informative & Well Documented, April 4, 2004
By A Customer
Great book. Very informative. All of the statements are supported by Islamic law. Jihad and terrorism are not the same thing. Jihad actually means struggle in all of its forms -- spiritual, emotional, intellectual. I only wish this book was longer.

By Omar B "OB" (Spring, TX) - See all my reviews
I find Dr. Hathoout's "Jihad & Terrorism" very precise in defining Jihad. I only hope that it is read by everyone who is interested in truth and seeker of truth. THis is Islam I love and that's why I am a Muslim.

May Allah reward you for this great work.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book does not address the Jihad we are living with, September 24, 2006
Mr. Hathout, tries hard to dismiss the the real discussion of Jihad, and only discusses the parts of this growing war against the west briefly. While there are many terms and types of Jihad, like the one most discussed at the UCLA campus by representatives of MPAC, "Jihad is when UCLA plays against the Trojand". or "Jihad is when your mother asks you to clean up yor room, and you do not want to". However, the JIhad we need to hear about is the the one from the Book of War, that discusses the killing and converting of the infidels to Islam. The global call for restablishment of the Caliphate, which is what is being taught in the Madrasseas of Pakistan, London, Ornage Country, and Dearborne Michigan. We need to hear about how the Islamofacists have taken the work literally and are using it to destroy the foundations of western civilization. Dr. Hathout, who has name called Israel an "apartheid state" has to look deeply inside his own mosque, the one that created Hadayet, the shooter at El Al, and Adam Gehdan, the Taliban kid from the OC who now is in Pakistan calling for death to America. If we are to appreciate the meaning of Jihad, then lets have ther truth of ALL the meanings, and with the real implications.
