This is an excellent book for any one who lives, loves, works with, is friends with, etc., an alchoholic or addict. It is a primary for the beginning of awareness of the problem. I don't recommend this for anyone who has been involved in any recovery program longer than 3 months.

As a substance abuse counselor, I appreciated the insight Outwitting Your Alcoholic gave and used it as a companion to daily life. I also referred to it in many lectures focusing on the imbalanced family and co-addiction. It simplified the answers to questions that emerged from family members who struggled with the inability to move forward in their lives. It offered alternative techniques which helped to improve self awareness and self assurance. Outwitting Your Alcoholic provided new breakdowns on the core issues of personal recovery, and was utilized in many counseling sessions to provide tools to tap into our inner strengths. As a substance abuse counselor, I was searching for a recovery book that would encompass many of the practical strategies which would help me deal therapeutically with the many forms of resistance I would encounter with our clients and their families in our Intensive Outpatient Treatment series. "Keep the Loving..." answered all the questions which would come up in class, and I found it to be a hands on resource guide that I was able to apply to the basic issues and key concepts of the recovery group process. In addition, I enjoyed the practical, and thoroughly up-to-date topics which were covered in this book. Mr. Lucas is a sensitive author and an informed teacher.
