Excellent primer on the subject of Marian Doctrine and Devotion. Takes each of the centrally held Church teachings on Mary and gives supporting references from Scripture, Papal Encyclicals, Sayings of the Early Church Fathers, and other Magisterial documents. Puts all the Marian dogmas in perspective. Easy to read. Explains commonly misunderstood notions of what Marian Devotion is. One section answers the most common and prevalent objections to what the Church teaches about Mary from non-Catholics. Concise yet comprehensive.

The Catholic position on the virgin Mary is often misunderstood and misinterpreted. In this book Dr. Miravalle aims to rectify this. He answers many arguments that people pose against having even the merest devotion to Mary, and he draws deeply from scripture and tradition to explain the importance of such devotion.
If anything this book might be faulted for being a little repetitious. The ten questions answered at the end, are mostly a summation of the preceding chapters. However, this should not detract greatly from the value of this book.

This book is written by a theologian, and world class Mariologist, Mark Miravalle. Hence it covers all the important points concerning Our Lady, including her immaculate conception, bodily assumption, mediatrix, and private revelations. The point of view of the book is theological, but it also has apologetics material. That last chapter is devoted to common objections (typically Protestant ones) to doctrines of Mary, and the book goes through some of the historic and first known titles and devotions to Mary, which is apologetic in nature as well as theological. The book is short and very solid. One important aspect of it is that the book looks at the roles and titles of Mary in their proper relation to Jesus. This is something that is often overlooked by non-Catholic Christians, especially when considering titles like Queen of Heaven and Mother of God. Miravalle shows how these titles do not take away Jesus' glory any more than the moon robs the sun of its glory; rather, it reflects it, much as Mary reflects Christ's glory.

The book isn't wordy, but packed with information and teachings about Our Lady. It can be used by a Catholic wanting to learn more about Mary, or a non-Catholic who wants to be sure that he knows what it is the Catholic church teaches about Mary. Very good and easy read.
