1.0 out of 5 stars Very Unsatisfying, July 12, 2001
By Vincent Basehart (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This book was a disappointing rehash of mostly outdated Hot Rod articles on the small block Ford. Other than the article on the long-rod 351W, most of it was information which might have been cutting edge in the '70s and '80s, but is obsolete now, especially at it pertains to cylinder head technology. Who needs to learn how to spend $800 porting old, heavy iron heads, when there are now myriad aftermarket aluminum heads which flow much better right out of the box for just a couple of hundred bucks more? I expected to have relevant articles in one place which I could use as a starting point for figuring out appropriate engine combinations. Instead I was treated to articles on the 351C and 400M featuring engine builders wearing mutton chops and bell bottoms. I felt taken. Shame on Petersen Publishing for doing this to their loyal readers. One would do much better getting Isaac Martin's "Ford Windsor Small-Block Performance".

5.0 out of 5 stars Editor - ClassicCar.com, April 16, 2002
By Ted J. Welch (Sacramento, CA USA) - See all my reviews
A great informational on Ford Hi-Performance Engines. Hot-Rod Magazine pulls together a wealth of past techincal information printed in Hot Rod Magazine. A great way to keep the best of tech information without keeping a cloest of past issues.
