Product Description

Industry experts have long considered The Official Vintage Guitar Price Guide to be the most accurate, authoritative and detailed publication to tackle the seemingly indomitable task of placing values on thousands of vintage and recent-model guitars, amps, basses, effects pedals, mandolins, lapsteels and other fretted instruments. Now in its 12th edition, the new Guide offers more than ever. Authors Alan Greenwood and Gil Hembree have made their ultimate guide to values even more valuable, with more details on familiar favorites and background on nearly 130 brands never before included in any price guide. Plus, we've added 45 more pages and 100 more photos (nearly 700 in all!) showing all forms of vintage instruments, amps and effects. The Guide combines the most thorough research with an exceptionally user-friendly format that employs quick-find page headings, a comprehensive index, and a dealer directory that puts you just an e-mail or phone call away from guitar sellers in every region of the country. Also included is an in-depth look at the factors that drive the collectible instrument market, explaining the "hows and whys" in regard to the values of vintage and used equipment.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very weak, many omisions..., January 28, 2001
Sure, this book covers the Fenders and Gibsons adequately, but its coverage of some lesser know brands like Godin and Ibanez is a joke. For instance: Godin, who has manufactured at least 15-20 models since 1987, gets exactly one entry. Pathetic. Don't waste your money on this one. Hopefully they'll wake up and put out a much more comprehensive guide in the future. Until then just go to ebay and click on Search then Completed Items to find out how much a guitar is worth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vintrage guitar buyer's bible, February 6, 2007
By Dennis (New York) - See all my reviews
As I begin to watch for vintage guitars popping up in the odd places in the hope of finding a bargain, this book is very helpful. Already it kept me from overpaying by several hunderd dollars for one guitar. Of course, most of the popular Gibson [35 pages] and Fender [26 pages] guitars get lots of coverage and, while not authorative on every manufacturer, model and year (how could one source have it all?) Greenwood's reference book has proven very valuable. All the photos are B/W, there is not a photo of every model of every manufacturer; but in fairness, I would not have spent what that book would have cost. All-in-all, excellent. Buy it while it's still current.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get's better every year., January 9, 2007
Having been a guitar maker and repairman for 38 years I have come to rely on the "Price Guide" since it's inception.
When used with "Gruhn's Guide to Vintage Guitars" I can pinpoint the date the guitar was made, identify make and model fairly accurately and get a good idea of value.
This has been a great help in evaluating the over 200 guitars I've collected in the past several years.
Each year the "Price Guide" is expanded to include additional makes and models of guitars and this newest volume is no exception.
