Greg Thomas has done his homework and solicited the help of local experts to help dial you into the prime spots. There are tips on wading and reading water, and occasionally some sage commentary: "Winter Steelheading isn't a sissy sport. If you are not cut out for it...don't go through the motions and crowd the river." The hatch charts provide useful monthly insect activity for key lakes, rivers, and streams to help you match the hatch with suggested fly options. As Thomas says in his introduction, "If one angler decided to adequately sample all the good fly water in Washington during a lifetime, it would be impossible." It might be a stretch to call this the first comprehensive guidebook on flyfishing in Washington, but it is certainly one of the best and most complete. Greg Thomas is well qualified to fill that hole, and Flyfisher's Guide to Washington does it admirably. Thomas gives the coverage credibility by quoting local anglers and guides.
