Product Description

Walking should be one of the most natural things we do.

Most of us have been walking almost all of our lives. However, many have learned walking in a haphazard way. Wearing improper shoes, modeling ourselves after others whose walking is inefficient, and wrong ideas about how our body works are all factors that take their toll on us over time.

Because walking is natural, it is not hard to improve it to the point where it becomes meditation and improves our health at the same time.

For Tai Chi practitioners, walking provides an excellent opportunity to augment, refine, and reinforce Tai Chi principles and bridge the gap between formal practice and everyday life.

For non-practitioners, Tai Chi Walking trains us in walking concepts for improving health, balance, peace-of-mind and safety.

* If you hurt after a long day on your feet, this book is for you.

* Learn how to walk properly and naturally.

* Discover why poor walking posture can damage your health.

* Understand how proper walking can increase longevity and vitality.

4.0 out of 5 stars Walking using taichi principles, October 19, 2002
By Bob Wooster "woo" (Weston, CT USA) - See all my reviews
Dr. Chuckrow's book extends the principles of taichichuan to walking for exercise. It includes discussions on alignment, footwear, balance, etc. It follows on and repeats some of the material from his "Tai Chi Book." It is not a book for the general reader, requiring some familarity with taichichuan nor does it discuss the training exercise called tai chi walikng. I recommend it for the taichichuan novice as a thoughtful example of how to extend one's experience with the form to other areas.

5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended reading for all students of the martial arts, January 5, 2003
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
Tai Chi Walking: A Low-Impact Path To Better Health by Tai Chi Chuan expert Robert Chuckrow is a superbly presented, "user friendly", instructional compendium on the health benefits and practices of walking, employing Tai Chi principles for meditation and improved health at the same time. Readers will learn how to walk properly and naturally, why poor walking posture can actually damage physical health, and how proper walking can significantly increase longevity and vitality. Tai Chi Walking is confidently recommended reading for all students of the martial arts, physical fitness, and alternative health resources and practices.

5.0 out of 5 stars Walking and health using the principles of Tai Chi as a guide., June 27, 2008
[ASIN:188696923X Tai Chi Walking: A Low-Impact Path to Better Health]]
Robert has been my Tai Chi teacher for a few years and his classes are like this book. Each chapter gave me a new understanding about the ways I could improve the way I move and also insights to finding a new more healthy and fulfilling journey in other parts of my life. Chapter 1 deals with some of the basic principles of Tai Chi. Chapter 2,3,4 and 5 explore the benefits of correct walking, alignment problems that can occur, dynamics of walking and ways to walk naturally using many of the Tai Chi principles that involve moving with awareness and mindfulness. Chapter 7 speaks about the diffferent ways of walking. Other chapters deal with vision, care of the feet, footwear, walking safely, etc. I and many of my friends have found his hints about, sunburn, poison ivy, dehydration, walking surfaces, etc. very helpful. I had back surgery in Feb 2007 and Robert's Tai Chi classes which begin with some of the stretching exercises described in this book and discovering a more healthy way to walk have helped me to live a normal active life. My feeling is that anybody who wants to explore a different, possibly a more rewarding way to live their life should read this book.
