From the Actor

YMAA: Yang's Martial Arts Association was established in Boston, MA in 1982. With the intent of preserving traditional Chinese Gongfu (Kung Fu) and Qigong , Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming began training students in the rigors of Shaolin Long Fist and White Crane Gongfu as well as Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan. Dr. Yang also undertook his life-long dream of teaching and researching the Chinese arts and introducing them to the West through many books, videos and DVDs.

YMAA Publication Center has been a publisher of high quality traditional martial arts and health books since 1983, and is a pioneer in the cultural exchange between the East and West. While the West has successfully developed the material sciences, the East is celebrated for its levels of spiritual cultivation. During this period of exchange, the building of bridges is critical for the successful integration of the achievements of both societies.

Product Description

Taijiquan, Classical Yang Style-The Complete Form and Qigong, by Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming.

This two hour long instructional video is the perfect tool for building a strong foundation for a lifetime of practice. Yang family style, passed down from Yang, Pan-Hou, is one of the most popular styles of Tai Chi, and is known and studied throughout the world.Filmed entirely in Hungary during Dr. Yang's annual Taiji summer camp, this video has rarely taught qigong exercises for developing a deeper feeling for the internal aspects of Yang style Tai Chi.

Also taught is the entire Yang style long form, piece by piece, and in a continuous demonstration by Master Yang.

•Rare opportunity to learn from a world-renowned master of Tai Chi.
•Nearly two hours of instructional footage, so well-produced it is considered a living document to preserve the art.
•Qigong exercises to enhance overall health.

VHS NTSC • 105 minutes • Also available on DVD.

4.0 out of 5 stars What to expect ?, July 29, 2002
By "thermans77" (Oslo Norway) - See all my reviews
Learn the tradition! Not only an instructional video, but a living document designed to preserve a cultural tradition, the Yang Style Long Form, as passed down from Yang, Pan-Hou (of the original Yang Family Lineage)! But do not be fooled! This is not some archaic relic of a bygone age. It is a living, vital art! Practice of this form will bring you a healthy and relaxed body, a clear mind, and a strong sense of martial intent! This Taijiquan form, unlike so many others, has not lost its martial arts essense.

For easier learning, the form has been broken down into three parts, allowing you to learn the Taiji Form in a seamless flow. Included as well is the Taiji Qigong set which is essential for a deep understanding of the internal side of Taijiquan. This video will aid you on your way to achieving a true mind/body synthesis! Complements the book Taijiquan, Classical Yang Style.

Develop a healthy body and a clear mind!
Learn to feel and direct your Qi!
Learn the correct breathing patterns to match the movements of the form!
Split screen for convenient viewing from different angles!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Tai Chi video out there, April 27, 2004
By A Customer
Dr. Yang has included enough information in this video learn from for the rest of my life. If you can't get the DVD, which has even more additional content, this VHS still has a lot in it. His teaching is clear, and the layout of the video is simple and easy to follow. His way of teaching always works for both beginners and intermediate students alike, and he always drops in a little something for advanced students as well. Great place to start learning real Tai Chi.

It starts with the fundamental postures and forms of Tai Chi, where he shows what the basic concept of the moves are, with tai chi fighting applications. Then there is a section for stretching and warming up the entire body, and the entire stationary Taiji Qigong set, for training internal Qi energy circulation. Some walking Taiji Qigong is shown as well. Then the entire 108 Posture authentic long form is demonstrated with each posture named. Dr Yang's form is beautiful and powerful. At the end before the credits, you get to see him do the form with "Fa Jin', or expressing power, briefly, which demonstrates what all of the form is really intended to look like. (Eventually, after years and years!!)A+!!
