From the Inside Flap
Heart disease is the number one killer of people in the United States and Europe, and most people don't realize that they have it until it's too late. The result of twenty-one years of work with the American Heart Association and more than ten years of investigation in the area of cholesterol, Dr. Richard M. Fleming presents, How to Bypass Your Bypass: What Your Doctor Doesn't Tell You About Cholesterol and Your Diet, a book about good health and the truth about cholesterol-written in terms that the lay public can read and understand. Finally, a book addressing actual caloric needs for different bodies and different lifestyles, illustrating the differences between good and bad cholesterol and where it comes from, as well as offering delicious recipes for cholesterol-free, heart-healthy dishes.

Easy to follow, this book can be read from beginning to end or used chapter by chapter as a reference tool. Dr. Fleming's research helps health conscious people become more educated about buying foods by reading their content labels. He also instructs the reader on how to look for fat and protein content in foods without labels.

Written at the request of his patients, friends, and family who asked for a better and cleaner understanding of cholesterol and their diets, HowTo Bypass Your Bypass can truly be a lifesaver.

From the Back Cover
"Richard Fleming's book is an excellent guide for those who wish to better understand the way cholesterol is formed in the body and the effects of elevated cholesterol in cardiovascular disease. His suggestions for controlling cholesterol are excellent. I feel that this book is well written and is a very good practical guide for those who wish to improve their cardiovascular health." --Tom Osborne, Head Football Coach, University of Nebraska

5.0 out of 5 stars Not only how to bypass heart surgery but a heart attack., March 17, 1999
By A Customer
In august of 1997 I had a heart attack and the doctors wanted to take me for angioplasty. They told me I wouldn't survive without it, unless I was lucky. One week later I heard about this book from a friend (who bought it for me) and started to read it. One of the doctors at the hospital told me he knew about this book and Dr. Flemings work. He told me I should follow the recommendations in the book and not let them do surgery on me. I met Dr. Fleming at the Fleming Heart and Health Institute in Omaha, Nebraska. I went in every 6 weeks and changed my diet and exercise program as Dr. Fleming told me to. Today my cholesterol and triglyceride levels are where they should be. Dr. Fleming also checked other tests and explained why they were helping to cause my heart disease. Last week I became a true believer. The area of my heart attack was smaller and the blood flow to my heart (in two different arteries) had improved. I feel better than I have in years and I owe it to Dr. Fleming and his books. If you want to see him, his office is in Omaha, NE and his telephone number is 402-343-0800. If you can see him you should, even if you don't know you have a problem, he can find out what if anything you need to do to become or stay healthy. If you can't see him, you'ld better at least buy his books.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not much new here. Limited discussion of alternative methods, February 5, 1998
By A Customer
From the title of this book I was expecting a new revolutionary approach to combatting heart disease. What you get is something quite different. The book is a fairly basic but thorough discussion of cholesterol, fats etc. Probably 75% of the book is taken up by menus so in a sense this is a cookbook. There is virtually no discussion of the many alternative strategies such as high fiber diets, no talk of the role of homocysteine, garlic, curcumin, chelation, thyroid supplements etc. If you need a basic discussion of cholesterol, diet and fats and I mean basic this book would be fine. If you're ready for the next step, skip this.

5.0 out of 5 stars This should be on the New York Times Bestseller List !!!!!, September 29, 1997
By A Customer
The book is easy to read and understand. I didn't realize how common heart disease is or its effects on our children. Not only does the book explain why we need to change or dietary habits, but it also walks the reader through how to make these changes. Its about time someone explained this so it can be understood. Great Book!!!
