Born on the island of Lesbos in 612 B.C., Sappho is believed to be the first woman to write lyric poetry. Although few of the poems have survived, she is considered one of the greatest of the early Greek poets, and her few surviving poems are some of the simplest yet most passionate ever written. Among the 30 poems and poem fragments collected here are "Eros," "Death of Adonis" and "Song of the Wedding Bed." 2 cassettes.
