Product Description

Finalist at the 2003 Banff Mountain Book Festival.

Classic Climbs of the Cordillera Blanca is, by far, the most beautiful and comprehensive book yet produced about Peru's - and South America's - most famous mountain range.

With 182 spectacular color images, including 16 panoramas, and detailed route descriptions, author Brad Johnson leads us to the best the Cordillera Blanca has to offer. Also included are 12 three-dimensional maps, using a cartographic technique never before presented in a climbing guidebook. Johnson's savvy travel tips and colorful anecdotes support the conventional wisdom that nowhere else are high-altitude climbs so enjoyable, eccessible and inexpensive.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best climbing guidebook , February 18, 2005
By Gregory Witt (Provo, UT USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Classic Climbs of the Cordillera Blanca is simply the finest climbing guide I have ever seen. The maps, photography, route descriptions, and all the additional tips and resources are phenomenal. I'll probably end up needing two copies, one to take with me to Peru, and another as a coffee table showpiece after I return. I've climbed and traveled all over the world and have never found a more beautiful and invaluable climbing guidebook.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great guide to an incredible range of mountains, July 12, 2009
The Cordillera Blanca is one of the most incredible ranges of mountains in the world, and the climate is very friendly for climbing. Brad Johnson has done a great job of documenting the classic routes and his book inspired me to return. The maps and route descriptions are excellent and the photos are fabulous. If you aren't inclined to tackle 6,000 meter peaks, you can enjoy the great vistas from the comfort of your armchair. Dancing on the Edge of an Endangered Planet
