Editorial Reviews

Product Description

Meaning: The Secret of Being Alive is about the WHY of the things we call "human condition." It's also about two very different kinds of people--the normal or "normative" person and the heretofore virtually unrecognized "integrative person.
While normative people see life as a series of events, integrative people see it as a dynamic vista of interdependent systems. They not only see the forms and processes of systems, they see the intangible causes behind these tangible effects that give them their meaning.
This book does not prescribe what is or should be meaningful to anyone. Rather, it provides a perspective that promotes an individual's ability to see meaning and, from that, find what is meaningful to him or her. As such, it provides tools of personal freedom.

5.0 out of 5 stars A clear and thought provoking contribution., October 22, 1999
Cliff Havener has written quite a book! It is under two hundred pages with really nice print; contains illustrations both graphic and literal and REALLY speaks to us about MEANING. Purpose, essence, understanding, reason and other conceptual frames serve us in our quest for meaning. Mr. Havener takes us on a nice and very interesting and meaningful journey towards an integrated and systemic way of looking at things. Through some factual and therefore actual organizational experiences with which we can readily identify, we clearly see how our thinking gets us into cycles that create fodder for coming up with solutions that are the very seeds and root of the problems we seek to resolve. I sincerely recommend a wonderful read through this book. And, I promise you a real good grok of our memes!

4.0 out of 5 stars Meaning - The secret of being alive, December 6, 1999
Although the title allows much breadth and thus suggests that there may not be depth....there is.

One of the few books that my wife and I mutually found to be valuable. Our interests are so different yet Havener has struck and plucked at chords that resonate with both of us. Most unusual! Most rewarding! This is yet another view and approach to man's responsibility to both present and future man.
