PreS-Gr 2-This book/tape tells the story of a young girl who rescues a stranded witch, and herself, from an isolated island. Cleverness and gumption are the keys to her success, and she winds up impressing even the witch. Read by the author, Jim Schisgall (Hardy Hill, 1997), this is a simple story with a positive message. The author provides some introductory information at the beginning of the tape, then reads the story clearly and with expression, giving different voices to the two main characters. Both sides of the tape are the same. The paperback book has bold illustrations in black, white, gray and orange by John Timmins. This gentle, only slightly scary tale would make a suitable listening center for Halloween.-Teresa Bateman, Brigadoon Elementary School, Federal Way, WA
